We are entering a special few days from 31st – 2nd November – Halloween, Samhain, All Saints Day and Dia de los Muertos. These celebrations go back to ancient traditions, but all share a common essence: the veils between the worlds are thin, and it is a sacred time to honour those who have gone before us.
I personally like the Mexican tradition best. I honour my ancestors by bringing out their pictures and placing them among my plants – I call it my indoor garden. I light candles for them and give thanks for the gifts, strengths, and wisdom they have passed on to me. This simple ritual is a way of celebrating your loved ones with joy. If you have seen the Disney Pixar film Coco, you will remember how beautifully it captures the essence of Día de los Muertos.

Visualization to Honour Your Immediate Ancestors
- Close your eyes and relax.
- Focus on your breath. With each breath, relax more and more. As you breathe in and out, relax your body and mind.
- Invoke Archangel Michael, the angel of protection, courage, and strength, to oversee your work and act as a gatekeeper.
- Call your guardian angel and dragon to come close.
- Focus on your heart. Watch your dragon take three deep breaths, and do the same to expand your heart energy. See and feel the love in your heart rippling outwards in a sphere. Repeat the affirmation: “I AM a master of the heart.”
- Invoke your parents. Visualize Archangel Michael opening a portal of light. See your parents stepping through the portal accompanied by angels. Bow to your parents, and bless them. Send them love from your heart, and thank them for their gifts. Focus on them for as long as you wish.
- Invoke your grandparents from both your mother’s side and your father’s side. Visualize them stepping through the portal accompanied by angels. Bow to your grandparents, and bless all four of them. Send them love from your heart, and thank them for their gifts.
- Invoke your great-grandparents from both your mother’s side and your father’s side. Visualize them stepping through the portal accompanied by angels. Bow to your great-grandparents, and bless all eight of them. Send them love from your heart and thank them for their gifts.
- Invoke your great-great-grandparents from both your mother’s side and your father’s side. Visualize them stepping through the portal accompanied by angels. Bow to your great-great-grandparents, and bless all 16 of them. Send them love from your heart, and thank them for their gifts.
- Invoke your great-great-great-grandparents from both your mother’s side and your father’s side. Visualize them stepping through the portal accompanied by angels. Bow to your great-great-great-grandparents, and bless all 32 of them. Send them love from your heart, and thank them for their gifts.

- You have 234 ancestors gathered now, bringing you gifts. Feel gratitude in your heart, and reflect on what these gifts might be. Each person has different qualities, skills, knowledge, experiences, and wisdom. Remember that all beings incarnating on Earth are courageous, high-frequency souls with much to share from their many lifetimes on Earth, other planets and stars, and even other universes. Your ancestors may offer you strength, love, and compassion, or they can help you anchor more deeply into the planet.
- Knowing that all family karma has been cleared for you and all your family reaching back seven generations, ask Source and your Monad for a divine dispensation to clear the effects of your karma at the perfect rate. Stay in silence, and receive the response. Give your thanks.
- As you look at your ancestors again, the angels are flooding them with light. You may see illuminated symbols in their auras and recognize that they are truly magnificent souls. You may feel love and gratitude coming towards you. Once more, bow to your ancestors to honour them, and thank them for coming. Tell them you are very thankful for their gifts and the grace you have received.
- It is time for them to return. Watch your ancestors and their angels step through the portal that Archangel Michael keeps open for them. When the last one has gone, he closes it. Start bringing your consciousness back into your physical body. Know that something has shifted. Your foundations are stronger, and this is a new beginning. Open your eyes and expect wondrous things to happen.
